Cancellation and Waiting Fees on Taxi Masr: When You Pay and When It's Free

On Taxi Masr, cancelling a ride is free before you accept any captain's offer, and during the first two minutes after you accept. After that a fixed cancellation fee applies depending on the stage of the ride: EGP 10 once the two minutes have passed, EGP 15 if the captain is on the way to you, and EGP 25 if they have already arrived. Waiting at the pickup point is free for the first 5 minutes, then EGP 1.50 per minute up to a maximum of EGP 30.

These fees are not there to make money: they compensate the captain for time and fuel when they set off towards you and the ride is then cancelled. And because they are published in advance, there is nothing to argue about.

Cancellation fees by stage of the ride

The app shows you the fee before you confirm the cancellation, so you know exactly what you will pay. The fee is deducted from your Taxi Masr wallet, and most of it goes to the captain after the 5% commission.

Waiting charges at the pickup point

Waiting time starts when the captain marks their arrival at the pickup point and ends when the ride starts:

• The first 5 minutes: Completely free.
• After that: EGP 1.50 for every extra minute.
• The maximum: EGP 30, however long the wait.
• At stops: No waiting is charged at the stops on a multi-stop ride; waiting is only charged at the pickup point.

What happens if the captain cancels?

If the captain cancels after accepting the ride you pay no fee, and you get an instant notification so you can request a new ride. The captain picks the reason from a fixed list, such as not finding the passenger, a wrong address or a problem with the car.

Tips to avoid cancellation and waiting fees

1. Check the pickup point before requesting: An accurate address saves the captain searching and saves you waiting.
2. Request when you're ready: Don't request the ride long before you are ready to go down.
3. If you change your mind, cancel early: Cancelling within the first two minutes after accepting is free.
4. Schedule rides for fixed appointments: So the ride arrives exactly when you need it.
5. Talk to the captain: Message them from the app if you'll be a minute or two late.
