When it rains, demand for taxis jumps in a short time and finding a car gets harder. If you are looking for a taxi in Mansoura in the rain, what matters most is a service that shows you the price before you book and does not raise it because the weather pushed demand up. On Taxi Masr the price stays “the meter or less” in the rain like any other day, but arrival times can be longer because of the roads, so planning ahead helps.
Rain changes how people move: someone who would have walked requests a taxi, and someone who would have taken a microbus looks for a closed car. The result is many requests at once, traffic, and difficulty stopping at pickup points.
But more demand is one thing and a higher price is another. The car may be late even when the price is known, so do not look at the price alone: check your pickup point and give the ride extra time.
Not on Taxi Masr. The fare is calculated on the official tariff and shown before you request, and a captain may send you a lower offer, but the meter fare cannot be exceeded because of rain, traffic or holidays. The only increase is the official 25% night surcharge from midnight to 5 am.
Tell the price apart from the journey time: rain can slow traffic so the minutes add up, and the per-minute rate is part of the official meter, but there is no “rain price”.
Standing at a crowded entrance, or somewhere a car cannot stop, makes the wait longer. If you are near Mansoura University, the railway station or a busy shopping street, choose a well-known entrance the captain can reach without stopping in the middle of the road.
Check the pin on the map before confirming, and if you need to explain where you are, use the in-app chat with the captain. Do not stand somewhere dangerous to get a few metres closer; a safe spot and a few steps under an umbrella is better.
Delays in bad weather are usually normal. Before you cancel, check the car's position on the map and message the captain in the app. If the car arrives and you cannot spot it in the rain, message the captain rather than wandering the street.
And remember the waiting rules: the first 5 minutes at the pickup point are free, then EGP 1.50 a minute up to a maximum of EGP 30. So if you need time to leave the house, do not request the car until you are close to the pickup point.
Rain at night combines poor visibility with an uncomfortable wait. Rides between 10 pm and 6 am are shared automatically with the trusted contacts you have enabled for night rides, and you can also share the ride by hand. In a real emergency, call the police on 122 or an ambulance on 123 first, then use the SOS button in the app.
Yes, when you have an appointment you cannot be late for: work, a train or an exam. Choose the day and time; you get a reminder fifteen minutes before, and the search for a captain starts ten minutes before. It does not cancel out the weather's effect on traffic, though, so leave extra time.
