To share live tracking of a taxi ride with your family on Taxi Masr, open the trip screen, tap “Share trip” and send the link with any messaging app. It opens in any browser with no app or account needed, and shows the ride's status, the captain's first name, the plate number, the car's colour and model, and its position on the map as it moves. For rides between 10 pm and 6 am, the link is sent automatically to the trusted contacts you have enabled for night rides.

A quick call saying “I'm in a taxi on my way” does not tell your family which car you are in or where you are now. A live tracking link answers both, and saves ten check-in calls along the way.

Steps to share live trip tracking

  1. Request your ride as usual and wait for a captain to accept, so the captain's and car's details appear.
  2. On the trip screen, tap “Share trip”; the app creates a tracking link for this ride only.
  3. Send the link to anyone over WhatsApp, a text message or any messaging app, or copy it into the family group.
  4. The recipient opens the link on any phone or computer and follows the car on the map until you arrive.
  5. To stop sharing before the ride ends, revoke the link from the trip screen and it stops immediately.

What does your family see on the tracking link?

  • The ride's status: the captain is on the way to you, the ride is under way, or it has ended.
  • The captain's first name only: enough to recognise them without exposing their full details.
  • The taxi's plate number, colour and model, so they know it is the right car.
  • The car's position on the map with the time of the last update, plus the pickup and drop-off points.

Neither your phone number nor the captain's appears on the link. The car's position is shown only during the ride; after you arrive, the link stays open for about a quarter of an hour so your family can see you got there, and then it closes on its own.

Automatic sharing for night rides

If you request a ride between 10 pm and 6 am, the app automatically sends the tracking link, by notification or text message, to every trusted contact you have enabled for “night rides”. You do not have to remember each time.

  1. Open “Trusted contacts” in the app and add your parents, your spouse or a friend you trust.
  2. Enable night rides for each of them, and emergencies too if you want them to receive an SOS alert.
  3. During the day, share the link by hand from the trip screen, or send it to your trusted contacts with one tap.

And as the car nears your destination (about 500 metres), the same contacts get a message that you are almost there.

Ways to reassure your family: a quick comparison

MethodWhat your family knowsThe drawback
A phone callThat you got into a taxiNo plate, no location, no follow-up
A photo of the plateThe plate numberNo route and no moment of arrival
Sharing your phone's locationWhere your phone isStops if your battery dies and shows no car details
A Taxi Masr trip tracking linkThe car, the captain, the route and the arrivalThe recipient needs internet to open it

One important detail: the car's position on the link comes from the captain's app, not your phone, so it keeps updating even if your battery dies or your phone loses its connection.

And in an emergency?

If you are in real danger, call the police on 122 or an ambulance on 123 first. Then use the SOS button on the trip screen: it alerts the Taxi Masr team and sends your trusted contacts a tracking link to your location that stays open even after the ride ends or is cancelled. If you press it by mistake, cancel it and the people who were messaged are told it was a false alarm.

Tips for a safe ride

  • Match the plate number, the car's colour and the captain's name with the app before you get in.
  • Share the link before the car moves off, not halfway through the ride.
  • Sit in the back and follow the route on the app's map.
  • If you book for your mother or your son “for someone else”, send them the car's details and share the link with the rest of the family.

Frequently asked questions about sharing taxi trip tracking

Does the person I share the link with need to install the app?

No. The link opens in any browser on a phone or computer, with no installation or sign-up.

When does the tracking link end?

After you arrive it stays open for about a quarter of an hour so the recipient can see you got there, then it closes. It stops immediately if the ride is cancelled or you revoke the link.

Does my phone number or the captain's appear on the link?

No. Only the captain's first name, the car's details and its position appear.

What if my phone's battery dies during the ride?

Tracking continues, because the car's position comes from the captain's app, not your phone.

Does trip sharing or night sharing cost anything?

No. It is free and does not change the fare.
