The best way for elderly people to get around in Egypt is usually a taxi from their front door to the door of where they are going, booked ahead at a known price: no waiting on the kerb, no high microbus steps, no haggling over the fare. On the Taxi Masr app, a son or daughter can request the ride for their parents from their own phone, under the parent's name and number, and follow it on the map until they arrive.

Doctor's visits, lab tests, collecting a pension, visiting relatives: trips that cannot be skipped, but that are exhausting for someone with bad knees, a bad back or weak eyesight. The right choice of transport makes the trip shorter, calmer and more dignified.

What makes everyday transport hard for elderly people?

  • Walking to the stop and waiting in the sun, the cold or the rain.
  • High microbus and bus steps, narrow doors and crowds.
  • Sudden braking and rough driving for anyone with joint pain.
  • Haggling over the fare and counting cash and change, which is tiring for anyone with weak eyesight.

Taxi Masr features that suit elderly riders

1. Book for someone else from your phone

Set the pickup at your parents' home and the destination, and enter the rider's name and number so the captain can contact them. You follow the ride on the map from wherever you are, and share the link with your siblings.

2. Schedule ahead for doctor's appointments

Choose the day and time of the appointment; you get a reminder fifteen minutes before, and the search for a captain starts about 10 minutes before. Leave a margin for traffic, especially before clinic hours.

3. Stops on the way

Up to 5 stops in one ride, priced on the whole route: from home to the pharmacy and back home. A stop is for a short halt; for a long clinic visit it is better to book two separate rides, there and back.

4. Ride preferences

Choose a quiet ride, air conditioning on or off, and the kind of music or none, and you can ask for a female captain if one is available in the area. If the rider has a walker or a folding wheelchair, tell the captain in the in-app chat before they arrive.

5. A clear price and no change to count

The price is shown before you request, on the Taxi Masr meter (EGP 20 to start + EGP 5 per km + 50 piastres per minute), and does not go up after you confirm. The rider pays the amount shown in cash, or you pay it by InstaPay transfer, or by card on a POS terminal if the captain carries one.

Roughly how much does a trip to the doctor cost?

TripApprox. distance / timeMeter by day
To a nearby clinic3 km / 10 min≈ EGP 40
To a hospital in another district5 km / 15 min≈ EGP 52.50
Home → pharmacy → home6 km / 25 min≈ EGP 62.50

The figures are approximate; the exact price for your route appears in the app before you request. A captain may send an offer up to 20% below the meter.

Tips for a comfortable ride for your parents

  • Request the ride when the rider is ready: the first 5 minutes of waiting at the pickup are free, then EGP 1.50 a minute up to EGP 30.
  • Put the pickup pin on the building's own entrance, not on the main road.
  • Send your parents the captain's name, the plate number and the car's colour.
  • Share the tracking link with the rest of the family and stay reassured until they arrive.

A taxi is not an ambulance. In any emergency or serious medical situation, call an ambulance on 123.
