For university students, and for parents organising the school run, a booked licensed taxi combines a few things buses and microbuses cannot: a ride scheduled for the time you need, up to 5 stops in one trip, a live trip link the family can follow, and a price known before you ride. On Taxi Masr the fare is the meter fare (EGP 20 flag fall + EGP 5 per km + EGP 0.50 per minute) or less, and classmates sharing a car can split it in the app. One rule matters: accounts are for adults. A child rides on a booking made by an adult, who stays responsible for the trip.

For parents: Taxi Masr is for users aged 18 and over. To send a child to school, book from your own account with "Ride for someone else" and follow the trip from your phone. For young children, the safest choice is for an adult to ride with them.

Why families are looking for alternatives in the 2026 school year

  • Expensive school buses: annual subscriptions paid up front, and long routes that have children up two hours before school.
  • Timetables that do not fit: secondary and university students move between lectures, study centres and libraries at times no fixed bus serves.
  • Crowded microbuses at peak times: mornings and early afternoons are the hardest times to find a seat.
  • Worry about evenings: parents want to know where their son or daughter is on the way back from a late class.

How a booked taxi helps students and parents

1. Up to 5 stops in one ride

A parent can drop two children at two different schools and continue to work in one ride, with one flag fall. University students living in the same area, in Toreil or El-Mashaya for example, can be picked up in turn and taken to the university gate together. Stops are added while booking and priced into the route.

2. Scheduled rides for lectures and exams

Schedule the ride the evening before. The app reminds you 15 minutes beforehand and starts looking for a nearby captain about 10 minutes before the time you set. There is no repeating booking yet, so each day's ride is scheduled on its own.

3. Live tracking for the family

Share the live trip link with a parent: it shows the captain's name, the car and its position until arrival. Rides between 10 pm and 6 am are shared automatically with the trusted contacts you enable for night rides, who also get an "almost there" message near the destination. An SOS button is always on the trip screen.

4. Paying without handing children cash

The passenger pays at the end, in cash or by InstaPay, or by card if the captain carries a POS terminal; in-app card payment is being activated. Students sharing a car can send an equal fare-split request to up to 5 classmates' numbers.

Two real-life examples

  • Four students, one car: four students living near Suez Canal Street ride together to a faculty about 4 km away. On Taxi Masr's meter that is about EGP 46 for roughly 12 minutes (20 + 4 × 5 + 12 × 0.50), or about EGP 11.50 each when split four ways, before any captain discount.
  • A working parent: one child to school, another to nursery, then on to work, all in one ride with two stops. You pay one flag fall plus the kilometres and minutes actually driven, rather than three separate trips.

Tips for parents and students

  1. Add both parents as trusted contacts in the student's app so night rides are shared automatically.
  2. Schedule exam-day rides with a comfortable margin, especially for practical exams with fixed entry times.
  3. Agree a shared ride with classmates or neighbours and split the fare in the app.
  4. Check the plate number and the captain's name in the app before getting in, and check the seat for books and phones before getting out.

Frequently asked questions about student taxi rides

Do prices go up when schools and universities let out?

No. The meter fare does not rise with demand at any time of day. The only increase is the 25% night surcharge from midnight to 5 am.

Can my child ride alone?

Accounts are for people aged 18 and over. An adult can book for a child with "Ride for someone else" and remains responsible for the trip. For young children we recommend an adult rides with them.

Can I book the same school ride every day automatically?

Not yet. Each ride is scheduled separately; scheduling the evening before takes a minute.

What if my child leaves a school bag in the taxi?

The trip, the captain's name and the plate number are in the booking account's history. Report it from the app as a lost item and the support team follows up with the captain.

How are captains checked?

Every captain's national ID and professional driving licence are reviewed before the account is activated, and riders rate every trip. Captains whose rating falls too low are warned and then suspended.
