Yes. You can request a female captain on Taxi Masr by turning on “Female captain only” in your ride preferences. Your request then goes only to female captains online near you, and a male captain cannot accept it or send an offer on it. Whether a female captain is available depends on how many are online in your area when you request.

The option matters to many women: on the daily commute, on a ride alone, or coming home late. It is one of the ride preferences you set before requesting.

How do you request a female captain?

  1. Open the Taxi Masr app and set your pickup point.
  2. Choose your destination and check the fare shown before you request.
  3. Open ride preferences and turn on “Female captain only”.
  4. Send the request and wait for a female captain to accept or make an offer.

When a female captain accepts, her details and the car's appear in the app. If no female captain is nearby at that moment you may not receive an offer: the option depends on who is actually available, and is not a promise of a female driver at every hour.

Why do some women choose a female captain?

The reasons vary: personal preference, feeling more at ease during the ride, or practical situations such as a student coming home from a lesson, a mother travelling with her children, or an employee on her way to work every morning.

But choosing a female captain does not replace the other safety steps: checking the car's details and sharing your ride still matter.

What to check before you get in

  • The captain's name, and her photo if there is one.
  • Her rating and number of ratings.
  • The car's plate number.
  • The car's colour and model.
  • The agreed pickup point.

If the car that arrives does not match the trip details, do not get in until you are sure, and contact the captain through the in-app chat.

Does a female captain mean a safer ride?

Do not treat the captain's gender alone as a guarantee of safety. Safety is a set of measures: captains and cars reviewed before activation, a clear trip, tracking, a complaints channel, and emergency tools when needed.

Taxi Masr has an SOS button during the ride, and you can share a live tracking link with someone you trust. So think of “Female captain only” as a preference added to the safety tools, not a replacement for them.

What about rides at night?

If you are coming home after 10 pm: choose a clear, well-lit pickup point, check the car's details before getting in, and share the ride with someone you trust.

Rides between 10 pm and 6 am are shared automatically with the trusted contacts you have enabled for night rides, so you do not need to share by hand every time. In a real emergency, call the police on 122 first, then use the SOS button.

For university and work trips

You can turn the option on for any ride, but there is no guarantee of a female captain on every street at every hour. If you have an important appointment such as an exam or the start of a shift, do not leave it to the last minute.

You can schedule the ride in advance by choosing the day and time; you get a reminder fifteen minutes before, and the search for a captain starts ten minutes before, with your preferences kept as you set them.

What if no female captain is available?

Not receiving an offer does not mean the app has stopped working; availability depends on how many female captains are online and where they are at that moment. If a female captain is essential for you, request again shortly or plan the ride earlier, and do not change the preference just because you are in a hurry.

How do ratings help?

After every ride you rate the captain with stars, and you can add tags such as clean car, polite captain, safe driving or quiet ride, with an optional comment. A captain whose average rating falls below 3 stars is suspended automatically. Ratings are a useful signal, but they do not replace matching the car's details.
