Terms of Service
The rules that govern the use of Taxi Masr for riders and captains.
These terms govern your use of the Taxi Masr apps and website ("the platform"). By using the platform you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. Nature of the service
Taxi Masr is a technology platform connecting riders with drivers of licensed taxis ("captains") who work for themselves or for vehicle owners and garages. The platform is not a transport company, does not own the vehicles, and captains are not its employees. The contract of carriage is between the rider and the captain; the platform provides booking, pricing, payment, safety and support.
2. Accounts and eligibility
- You must be 18 or older (21 for captains) and provide accurate information.
- Your account is personal and tied to your phone number. You are responsible for everything done through it. Tell us immediately if you lose your phone.
- We may suspend or close an account for breach of these terms or suspected fraud or abuse.
- You may close your account at any time by contacting support, after settling any outstanding balance.
3. Fares and payment
- The "meter fare" is computed from the official tariff for the zone where the trip starts (flag fall + distance + time, with a minimum fare and a night rate where applicable). The tariff is published on the fares page and in the app, and updated when the authorities change it.
- A captain may offer a price below the meter, by at most 20% and never below the minimum fare. No party may ask for a price above the meter. Any request for extra payment outside the app is a violation to be reported.
- The fare shown before requesting is an estimate based on the expected route. The final fare depends on the actual route and time and any applicable waiting or cancellation fees, all itemised on the receipt.
- EGP 1 is added to every paid ride as a charity contribution and shown separately on the receipt.
- Cash is paid directly to the captain. Electronic payments (card, Apple Pay, InstaPay) are processed by a licensed payment provider whose terms apply to the payment transaction.
- Tips are optional and passed in full to the captain.
- Promo codes are subject to their conditions (validity, zone, minimum, usage count) and are not redeemable for cash.
4. Cancellation and waiting
- Rider cancellation is free within 2 minutes of the request or before any captain accepts. After that, cancellation fees apply (EGP 10 after acceptance, EGP 15 while the captain is en route, EGP 25 after arrival) and are passed to the captain as compensation. The amount is shown before you confirm.
- On arrival the rider has 5 free minutes, then EGP 1.50 per minute up to EGP 30 is added to the bill.
- A captain may cancel with a documented reason. The rider is never charged for a captain's cancellation.
- Scheduled rides can be cancelled free of charge before the captain search starts.
5. Code of conduct
All users must treat each other with respect; refrain from discrimination, harassment, violence or damage; not use the platform for any unlawful purpose; and not manipulate the system (fake accounts, fake requests, referral fraud). The platform may suspend any account in breach and recover any rewards obtained by fraud.
6. Ratings and complaints
Ratings are mutual and used to improve quality. Captain accounts are subject to automatic rating monitoring (warning below 3.5 and suspension below 3.0 after 10 rides) with a right to human review. Complaints are filed in the app and reviewed within a reasonable time; both parties accept support's decision in fare disputes up to the value of the fare.
7. Captain terms
- The captain warrants that their documents (national ID, professional driving licence, taxi operating licence, vehicle details) are genuine and will be renewed before expiry, and that they are legally entitled to carry passengers for hire.
- The captain is responsible for their vehicle, its insurance and roadworthiness, compliance with traffic law, and their own taxes.
- The platform commission is 5% of the fare of every completed ride (excluding tips). It is deducted from digital-ride earnings or recorded as a wallet debit for cash rides.
- Settlement is weekly; net earnings are transferred to the captain, who must settle any negative wallet balance. The platform may pause request delivery when a negative balance exceeds a set limit until it is settled.
- The captain must honour the app's prices, not refuse riders based on destination or payment method after accepting, follow the code of conduct, and use their account personally only.
- Fleet owners may manage their vehicles and captains through a supervisor account and are jointly responsible for their captains' compliance.
8. Promotions, referrals and wallet
Referral rewards (EGP 20 to the referrer and EGP 10 to the referred user after the first completed ride) and promotional credit are added as wallet balance usable only within the platform and not redeemable for cash; the platform may change their conditions or cancel rewards obtained by fraud. A captain's balance from actual earnings is transferable under the weekly settlement.
9. Liability
We make reasonable efforts to keep the service continuous and secure, but we do not guarantee captain availability at all times or the accuracy of estimated arrival times. As an intermediary platform, we are not liable for the acts of captains or riders beyond what the law requires, nor for indirect damages. Nothing here limits your non-waivable legal rights.
10. General
- These terms are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and its courts have jurisdiction over any dispute after an attempt at amicable resolution through support.
- We may amend the terms with in-app notice before material changes take effect. Continued use afterwards constitutes acceptance.
- If any clause is held invalid, the remaining clauses stay in force.
- The Privacy Policy complements these terms and forms part of them.
